VIRUS help?..................?

Question

so i recently downloaded a virus...it was like you wanna verify a genuine version of xp and i figured y not i havent been able to download all of microsofts updates it was a virus...i disconected my internet scaned the computer fixed the regestry,,,ever thing is good

it just deleated a bunch my shortcuts all my book marks and some of the stuff in the start menu (like my computer i would like to get that back)

im only worried about how to get the my computer thing back oh and sum how the virus added "VIRUS ALERT!" down to the right of my clock

any ideas on how to fix these things would b great...thanks

Super AntiSpyware does really well...I'd use it! It gets rid of anything that is not good for your computer from viruses to adware.

The Virus Alert! message is a little bit nasty but it's easy to take care of.  I'd try the following steps to fix anything that is going on with your computer:

1) First you want to get rid of the Virus Alert! message.  The following guide will help with that:

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

Disconnect your computer from the internet

Run vundo

Restart your computer

Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.

If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.

If the problem persists, turn OFF System Restore and scan with the above programs in Safe Mode, Right click My computer > select Properties > System Restore Tab > Tick Turn Off System restore on all drives.

After scans are complete and machine is clean remember to turn system restore back ON and create a new restore point.

Once your scans are complete and your machine is clean, uninstall some of the programs, I suggest that you keep Malwarebytes for manual scanning, Spyware Doctor for realtime monitoring and Spybot. The remainder can be removed to save drive space, but you may want to keep the installers for future use.
