Question:

Vacation to Milan?

I am meeting a friend in Italy for the first time in Milan. We have spoken via e-mail and mobile phone, but this will be our first timw to see each other. My Dad and I are going in mid or late June and will probably stay about a week. I was wondering if I could get some advice on a few questions?

* I know Milan is the fashion city of Italy, (which doesn't help an all American girl who loves blue jeans! lol), but what sort of clothing should I pack? I know you shouldn't enter the cathedrals with sleeveless shirts or shorts, but what else?

* How much does a train ticket cost (per person) to go to either Rome or Florence? I know we will travel to Rome for sure, but Florence is still in question.

I am learning a few words in Italian, but not overburdening myself. The real reason because I can't roll my tounge when the 'r' sounds are necessary-it sounds more like a fast 'duh'. Besides, my friend will be with us the whenever we go places.

I know por favore, buenonoche(?) and ciao.

  1. Blue jeans are NOT Italian fashion, so you should be fine!

  2. milan?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    ROME,ROME,ROME,ROME,ROME,ROME,ROME,ROM...

  3. Hi, I'm Italian and I live in Milan. If you want to know the prices and the timetable of the trains I recommend this web site:

    http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ferrovi...

You told that you will come in June, isn't it?

In that period often the weather is hot in the afternoon (82-95° F) but not so hot as in July (max 112°F but often we reach these high temperatures!)

I hope you will pass a funny holiday!

    P.s.:

    "Ciao" is informal = hello

    "Buon giorno" = good morning

    "Buon pomeriggio" = good afternoon

    "Buona sera" = good evening

    "Buona notte" = good night

    "Per favore" = please

    Grazie (gratziae) = thank you

"Mi scusi" (me skuzee) or  "Scusa"(skuza) = both to say "Excuse me" or "sorry"

Sorry for my English ; )

    Paola

  4. First of all, can i go with u??? jeje ok i use to live in milan so i know a lot about this, i love milan, and i hate you because u r going and im not, or probably yes, who knows but ok.. put in ur bag the most classy things you have, and put a lot of money in it, because there are so many nice things and clothes to buy overthere,, that you are gonna need some room in your bag to put them in. a train ticket to rome or to anywhere, dosent cost more than $40 http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ferrovi... you can find all the train info in that site. hope its helpfull

  5. i live in milan, i am italian....milan has many luxury shops where you can buy everything you want, from fashion items to perfumes, from jewels, to sunglasses.....think that you'll be eager to buy almost everything ;-p

you can also find some wonderful jeans, italian fashion cover everything....i can suggest you to buy some dolce&gabbana if you want strange jewels or fashion items...other brands....i like alessandrini...try yamamay if you want lingerie, pijamas, tops...

last month my girlfriend went to florence with a good train and she spent 40 euros (milan-florence) and other 40 to come back....it's a good train (the others are dirty and take much more time)...go here: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/

then, after writing milano and firenze (or roma) you'll have the alternative trips to your destination: i suggest you the second class of ES (eurostar), you'll take much less time than going by other trains...in "tariffa", choose "standard"!

  6. June has been very hot in the last years. It can be 30°C. I usually go around in t-shirts, light skirts and sandals. (and sunglasses, and maybe a hat)

The ticket Milano-Roma costs 51 E one way. To Florence it might be 2/3 of that fare, because it's 2/3 on the way. If you want to make a brief visit to Florence you can buy 2 tickets: Milano-Firenze and Firenze-Roma. They're on the same route, as I said.

You can leave early in the morning from Milan, spend the entire day in Florence (3 hrs trip) and go to Rome (1,5 hr)in the evening. It is easier to find cheap places to sleep in Rome rather than in Florence, but book in advance.

Those words are in spanish, or sort of. The correct ones are

per favore, buona notte. And another important one is grazie, people will forgive you for the funny R.

    Have a nice staying.
