Valium combined with alcohol?

Question

Someone said it makes you reckless and violent, but I've read on the net the combination makes you drowsy, can anyone shed any further light on this?

I'm not asking this because I intend to take valium whilst drunk it's for work purposes

As a recovered alcoholic (21 months) who went to re-hab for 3 months in 2006, we are taught a lot about other drugs, cross addictions and mixing of drugs, so if I ever had a 'specialist subject' this is it.

Simply, as Valium is a sedative, combining it with alcohol can lead to coma and respiratory arrest, this is a good link:

apparently it can kill you but if you want to die, you wont, if you dont want to die from it you probably will. sods valium law.

It CAN make you reckless and violent, it can also make you really depressed. No matter if it does either or not, it will make you drowsy no matter what.

On tour in Europe, on our closing night, I had a 500lb case dropped on my back by our local crew that didn't know how to lift properly.    I thought I was a dead man, my back was toast.

A 10mg Valium donated by our drum tech, and washed down with two splits of Champagne, I am now convinced, will cure absolutely anything on Earth that could possibly ail you.  It still hurt like h**l... but for some odd reason, I really didn't care! Wheeeeee!  Not drowsy, not angry... just giggly happy.

Not that I'm offering this as medical advise, or would recommend that anyone else ever do it... just telling ya my story.

they are both 'downers' Valium is a muscle relaxant - alcohol is a depressant. I have never taken them together although I take valium on prescription whenever I feel I need it - I imagine being drunk as well would lay me out cold.But I have a pretty sensitive constitution and don't weigh very much - Some people I know are able to take fantastic amounts of everything and it barely shows.

My friend has to take Valium for epilepsy, The doctor has advised her not to drink as it makes you drowsy, Although she is aloud 1 or 2 drinks, She has never become reckless & violent but a few drinks isnt much.

That is not a good combination and if you check the instructions on most packets of drugs it will say dont take with alcohol.

Valium will make you drowsy and affects your breathing which combined with alcohol is a lethal combination.

Its not just the outward side effects, more importantly it is what you do to your liver.  The liver being your filtration unit can be overloaded with impurities which can cause damage and may cause liver failure in severe cases.

Valium taken over a period of time can become habitual and a dependency drug Alcohol can cause various side effects to be exaggerated.  This can be anything from drowsiness to violence, depending on the individual.

Danger Zone! Apparently alcohol affects one part of the brain and Valium another. The result can be bad, aggression is most common. Like putting fuel to the fire and not having an extinguisher! Definitely do not combine.

Both Valium and alcohol are supressants which mean they slow your heart rate down. It would probably put you in a deep sleep.
