Van rental on Vieques?

Question

I'd like to hire a 12 or 15 passenger van on Vieques without a driver. I can't find one from the car rental companies. Anyone got a lead on one?

I lived in Vieques and can tell you that the rental car companies do not have vans in their fleet, sorry.

Can you possibly rent two minivans?? They each seat 7 people. If you can't find a big enough van then I think this might be your only other option if you can't find anyone to do that.

Then your only other option is to find a private person that would be willing to rent you their vehicle, like you're saying, check craigslist. Or you maybe can rent one on the mainland (san juan or somewhere) & bring it over on the vehicle ferry. I dont know how expensive it is & I heard cars sometimes get scratched, so you would be responsible. Goodluck.

It doesn't surprise me that you can't find one.  The roads are poor and very narrow there and frankly I don't even think they rent "regular" passenger cars, rather jeeps and the like.  Frankly, unless you are a publico driver, I wouldn't even attempt to drive a passenger van as the roads are just too narrow and there are no traffic lights there either.  I rented from Martineau Car Rental and found them to be fine.  They'll even pick you up from the ferry no charge (if not there are lots of publicos waiting at the tiny terminal).  They pick up for free at the airport as well. (I took the $2,50 ferry).  Have a nice trip and watch out for those jellyfish if you are going to the biobay!
