Venezuela/Guyana vs. Ecuador/Peru?

Question

I am thinking of going backpacking this coming winter with some friends (age 20) for two weeks. We were looking at plane tickets and it is to these countries that they are by far the cheapest. Which do you recommend for sight-seeing and an overall better/enjoyable experience Venezuela and possibly French Guyana or Ecuador and Peru?

Let's be as objective as possible. Your two choices are:

Nº 1.-  Going to the Amazon Jungle plains, and Caribean beaches of South America. Beautifull sight-seeing that will evoke your idea of Eden, the ultimate paradise. It would be two weeks of evergreen landscapes, white sand beaches with palm trees and vegetation all over the place. Ideal for couples that want to really get to know themselves in an isolated ground.

Nº 2.- The opportunity to visit the 2 top destinations in South America on your first turn: Galapagos Islands & Macchu Picchu. Now this is not a cheap journey and two weeks is a tight schedule to do both at the same time.

If it was my choice I would pick Ecuador-Peru because one of the unique sceneries that differences South America from the rest of the world is the Andes Mountains and there's plenty in both Ecuador and Peru. The other reason would be that you can encounter similar landscapes that you find in Venezuela-Guyana in Ecuador and Peru but not the other way around.

As i said, I'm being as objective as possible. Once you make your choice ask for more specific information on how to plan your trip.

By the way, I'm a LedZep fan and my greatest interactive experience with their music was crossing from a small town to another by the river bed (no visible road) while listening to No Quarter (Live) in my 1976 Toyota Corona! The other was going to a Led Zepagain concert here in Lima-Peru in 2007.

Angel Falls in Venezuela

I also believe there are some Amerindian ruins in either Ecuador or Peru or both.

Southern Venezuela is certainly unique, especially Canaima-Gran Sabana area. There you can see the tallest waterfall in the world, the oldest rock formations in the planet, Mount Roraima site of inspiration for Conan Doyle's Lost Word plus hundreds of others just as impressive waterfalls.

Also, we have Los Llanos which is considered one of the best places for wildlife viewing in South America.

The beaches in Ecuador and Peru aren't even close to Venezuelan beaches as far as warm, calm Caribbean water goes.

With that said, Ecuador and Peru are much cheaper for a backpackers budget and maybe more tourist friendly.
