Verizon LG VX5300 question?

Okay I went to see if I had a text message, and I pressed the button on the side, and the screen didn't come up. The battery was just charged, so I opened the phone and it turned it self off I guess. So, I turned it back on, and it said "Use genuine battery. -POWER OFF-"

I'm still using the fist battery that it came with, so what does that mean? What's going on and what should I do? It wont let me turn it off, so I took the battery out.....

  1. It could be that the phone has just died. A 5300 is an old phone.  They do eventually die even if you do take care of them.  Buying a new battery will cost you about 40 bucks. You would be just as well off upgrading to a new phone.  That would actually end up being the cheaper thing to do unless you are wanting to cancel your contract.
