Laurent Koscielny has proven to be the Gunners most consistent and most improved defender this season. The centre back has been part of the team’s starting eleven every time he is fit and the fact that he has made thirty nine appearances this season, despite
picking up an injury, just goes to show how crucial he is to the team.
Vermaelen, who has been teamed up with Koscielny at the back seem to admit that his defensive partner has looked to be rather brilliant this season and hopes for him to improve even further in the future.
When talking about Koscielny, Vermaelen is quoted to have said: “He has done amazing this season”
“I don't understand why a lot of criticism was there in the first season. The first week I saw him you could tell he was a great player and now it is all coming out in his second season. I am really happy for him.”
The Belgian international then went on to claim that Koscielny was one of the most complete defenders around and that it was very relaxing to play alongside him.
At the same time, Vermaelen feels that Koscielny is quite similar to him, when it comes to playing styles and this is why the two end up linking together flawlessly.
“In the last couple of months we have played together a lot of times and I am pleased with that,” he continued.
“He is a great player. I think we know each other's qualities so at the moment it is going well.”
“He is good all-round. He is quick, strong and good with the ball.”
“I think we are quite similar players as well. There are just a lot of things about defending that he is really good at and that is why I like him.”
Should Koscielny and Vermaelen continue to form a solid partnership, they could help the Gunners keep a number of clean sheets, which would make it a whole lot easier for the team to try and win a trophy next season.
