Question:

Very shy hamster?

Alright, I've had my hamster for about a month & a half. Since the day I got him, he's been very shy and didn't like to be picked up. It's been a while, and he'll come up to me, but the second I go into the cage, or even touch him, he'll FREAK & run away. Will he ever become friendly, or is it too late to tame him?

  1. It's never too late to tame a hamster.

Take a treat and hold it in your hand, he'll pick it up and eat it.  Do this until he will sit beside your hand and eat it...then try putting it a little further up your arm so he has to touch you to get it.  Then put it further until he has to sit in your hand to get it.  Once he gets secure enough to sit in your hand, then cup your other hand over him so he doesn't jump and sit down and put him close to your chest, and just pet and talk to him..eventually he'll get to where he loves the attention.

Hamsters from a pet store are not handled the way they should be, and are timid around people.

Just have patience, he will come around.  You will be able to pet and hold this hamster if you have patience with him and show him you mean no harm to him.

There's not been a hamster I've seen that can't be tamed and held if given the right amount of love and patience.
