Vets bill - for a brocken leg?

My greyhound has brocken it's leg this morning. We paid £950 today,for painkillers,drip, dressing, bloodtest, splint and x-rays today. My dog will need surgery to set the leg. The estimate for the op is £1.900. Is that excessive? Has somebody any experience with this kind of injury? Thank you.

Thats why its advisable to have pet insurance. for 20pounds a month its well worth it at times like this. My mum has a retriever with ligament damage and she has no insurance so she has to pay for any treatment needed in full.

Sounds horrendous to me but it depends on your vet & where you live. Probably cost me no more than £500 but I'm in the country & my vet is mainly farm animals & not many people have insurance to push the prices up.

I live in the US-so prices are in dollars here, but I can tell you as a retired greyhound racer owner- that these guys are a trick in sx.  Is it a full grown dog?  I have a vet tech that I work with that to amputate the front leg of her Italian Greyhound after the second fracture of the same leg- even the local vets at the University stated they could not put him back together again.

My friends dog broke a leg, and I believe it cost $1,500.00 American Dollars.  The vet let her make payments on the bill, since she has so many dogs, I guess he knew he would get paid.

Yes orthopedic surgery can cost a fortune.

I have a Flat Coated Retriever that hurt his leg at 10 weeks of age and the leg growth deformed needing surgery to reset the bone to straighten the leg up.

I would truly suggest to you that you make sure that your vet has an orthopedic background or find an orthopedic specialist.

Does sound about right, We're just about to have our dog's leg amputated due to Cancer, and as such the bill is around £5000 with drugs etc.

Do you have insurance?

if you cant afford it, and can get to london these guys will help you. but they will spay it at the same time...which is a good thing

Sounds good. Poor dog. They don't have much skin so broken bones and surgery is extra difficult. Often times they need a skin graft to cover over the wound.

when my dog broke her leg, it cost us about $1100.00 for the surgery, meds, hospital stay, etc.
