Video capturing?

Question

How can I capture video from mini DV camera and convert it to avi or other video format? I have no firewall. Any other means?

You can either capture through firewire (obviously you dont have it) or with DV link via USB port. You can use some trial version of video capturing applications such as Nero smart.

If you do not have a Firewire card in your computer a firewire card is  very easy to fit and you should be able to do it yourself - but to help you go and have a look at this video :-

I assume you mean firewire rather than firewall.  It's not worth looking at other options - just go out and buy a firewire card and cable.  They're cheap, easily installed, readily available and you'll save yourself so much trouble in the long run!  Honestly, it's a no-brainer!

AVI isn't a video format, it's a file format - the video format will depend on which codec is used to create the file.  The files you capture will be AVIs, but the video format will be DV.  To convert them to MPEG-2, WMV, MPEG-4 (DivX etc) you should edit them first and then do the final render to the format of your choice.

Your  dv  camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

Then use a good video editing software, I like pinacle studio 11 ultimate. But windows movie maker is free.

Firewire cards are cheap and easy to install.
