Video editor for skateboard filmer?

What Video editing software should i use for skating videos. I want to do things like speed up and slow down time, add in color effects mirror images etc... etc.. a normal skate vid. I use a sony handycam that uses those mini-dvds so it has to be compatible.

do you use mac or pc? if you use a mac i would say that the imovie hd video editing program that they come with, or can be bought cheapily for if you have an older mac will be sufficient for your needs. if you use a pc i would reccoment sony vegas. it is a amateur editing program, but it is very cool, and pretty powerful with nice effects etc.
