  1. There are arid areas, but I don't accept that there are deserts - I didn't see deserts during my latest 4 years there. It's climate is pretty friendly towards rice production, so, reasonably, rice is a major crop, and was a major export commodity (the recent food problems elsewhere may have changed that).

They export shrimp and catfish (but some red neck in the south passed a law defining catfish as something only grown in red neck country). They also export nuoc mam, and other delicacies.

Tropical fruit are a potential export crop, but I don't know if they are sending any to North America.

Tropical woods are hard come by these days, so VN is importing (probably illegal) logs / wood from elsewhere and making furniture for export.

Textiles manufacturing is a major activity, for the export market.

Motorbike and car imports are up. There are lots of high tech goods available in every city.

  2. Vietnam is located in the tropics.  From Danang southwards, it's tropical weather, generally warm (26 - 35 deg C) with dry and wet seasons.  Hue and towards the north, there are 4 seasons due to the influence of monsoon winds from China.  Hence, weather varies from hot summers (30 - 38 deg C) to cooler winter (10 - 16 deg C).

Vietnam's major exports are primarily agriculture: rice, coffee, cashew, shrimps, catfish, rubber, coal.  The country has also significant exports in terms of wood products, and garment & shoe manufacturing.  As for imports, it mainly machinery and heavy equipment as this is a newly industrialised nation.

  3. Vietnam's climate varies. It has deserts, wetlands, mountains, and just about everything in between. It's main export is, or used to be, rubber. The French established many rubber factories during their occupation.
