does somebody knows how long the busride from ho chi minh to luang prabang takes

There is no bus go direct from HCM city to Luang Prabang. If you wish to take the bus, you must follow one of the following options:

- Saigon-Phnompenh-Siemreap-Bangkok by bus and then Bangkok-Vientiane-Luang Prabang

- Saigon-Hue-Vientiane-Luang Prabang

Those two options are very hard and you should not take this route unless you must.

According to recent infos from HCMC's East Coach Station, the only direct bus from HCMC to Vientiane takes 48 hours (or shorter). There you'll take another bus to Vang Vieng, and then another one to Luang Phrabang.

...i'm sure if you take it you'll think it takes  forever !!

ok ,sai gon to hue ; close to 24hrs hue to savanaket 8-10 hrs [ including stop at border]   from there to luang probang.. guessing 12hrs more...save your money and take the plane.
