Violations and  rules – Volleyball Guidelines
Karch Kiraly, the famous American volleyball player and the only person who has won Olympic gold medals in beach volleyball as well as indoor volleyball, expressed his love for the game when he said, “I still get excited just attending a final four, because
the process is so long, so arduous, so challenging, that when it finally arrives, the adrenaline can’t help but take over. I love the sense of accomplishment and camaraderie that the indoor game can engender.”
If you share the same feelings as Kiraly about the game but have only started to play then you have come to the right place because we will be helping you become a better player by telling you what not to do. We have already dealt with the more basic violations
that can occur on the volleyball court ans we will now be talking about the slightly lesser known ones in this article.
Once you start playing the game, you might have noticed that there are several technicalities involved with playing at the net. The first and foremost thing to take care of is to master your footwork. If a player’s foot step onto the line under the net in
such a way that part of the foot is in the opponent’s court, it is usually categorized as a foul. However, if that player’s hand or foot is touching the centre line or is directly above it, then the act is not considered a violation. This sort of violation
is something that new players often make because they do not pay attention to the line during the heat of the match.
Taking care where the foot is placed is important not only while playing at the net, it is also important while performing a serve. The service is made with the player standing outside the court, just before the line. During the entire action of making a
serve, if the foot of the server crosses the line that marks the boundary of the court, it will be considered as a violation.
A player should also be careful that no contact with the net is made while the player is playing the ball. Secondly, if touching the net disrupts the natural course of the ball, it will be called out by the referee.
These were some of the general violations. However, there are a few crucial violations associated with attacking. If a back row player comes all the way to the front line and hits the ball as it is at the top of the net, this is considered a violation. It
would also be a violation if a player from the opposing team attacks a served ball if it is at the top of the net and has not yet completely entered their side of the court. Likewise, it is not allowed for a libero to perform an attack hit with the ball at
the top of the net. If the opposite’s side libero, who is placed in the front zone, has hit the ball by performing an overhand finger pass, then the other team’s players must tackle that ball carefully. In case the players on the receiving end of the libero’s
hit make contact with the ball by attacking it while the ball is higher than the top of the net, then it would be categorized as going against the rules.
With that, we end our article dealing with some of the more technical violations that you might encounter while playing volleyball.
