A friend of mine who is a Student on a limited income, wishes to come for a holiday in the Uk.. This person is Indian .

My friend would stay at my house and have up to £1,000 money to bring with him.. however, I am being told that I need to show my own, personal bank statements for the last six months when I act as a Sponsor.. Does anyone know if this is necessary.. as well as my friend having money to bring.

This is purely for a tourist visit!! I have looked on many embassy sites and I cannot find a satisfactory answer to this question...

Any answers, gratefully received.

Thank you.

  1. Well if it is as you say, purely a tourist visit why not just supply the information, problem solved!

  2. I am sorry to say that some people who enter the UK on a tourist visa Neglect to return to their own countries when their visa expires. The immigration authorities therefore would like some proof that if your friend forgets to leave that you will have the neccesary funds to support him and that he will not become a burden on the welfare state.

  3. The information you nee in in this website. Please review it and I believe all your answers will be there along with ways to get more information if needed.

  4. Your friend has to proove he has enough money to support himself for his length of stay.  If you are his sponsor, you are saying YOU will support him and now the goverenment wants to make sure you CAN.

  5. well if you really want your friend to call on  you Here in the UK why not give them what their asking for after all its only bank statements and when he's gone back then if your still feeling angry then take it up with the authorities

  6. If the visit is for a holiday and you are a relative or a friend, a letter of sponsorship explaining your relationship to the applicant and why the visit is taking place at this particular time may be helpful.

If the visit is for a special family occasion (for example, celebrating a wedding, a birth or an important anniversary), an invitation giving details of the event, when and where it is to take place, and a letter of sponsorship would be helpful. If the person you are sponsoring is not a close relative or is one of several people invited to the occasion, it would be helpful to know why the applicant was chosen to attend.

If you are offering to provide support and accommodation, or to pay for travel to the UK, you must provide evidence of your ability to do so.

    The following would be helpful.

A letter of sponsorship giving details of your occupation and salary and how you will provide support and accommodation for the applicant. There is no need to have this letter certified (in other words, signed) before a solicitor or commissioner for oaths to confirm it is genuine.

Evidence of your ability to pay for the trip, such as copies of your last six months' bank or building society statements and salary slips. If you receive public funds, the Entry Clearance Officer will need to consider carefully how long you will be able to support other people on your limited means. You will not be able to get extra public funds to support the applicant.

We will refuse the application if we find that any documents are false
