Visiting Disney in December?

Question

Me and my spouse would really like to visit disneyworld. Ideally, I would like it to not be that crowded... The only time we would be able to go would be December 13th-20th... How busy will this time be? I personally went to Disneyworld last february from the 17th-24th (over Presidents Day). I did not find it THAT bad. If I were to go in December, would it be less crowded, more crowded or similar? When do the crowds really start to creep up?

I haven't been to Disney World in over 10 years, but during that era the least crowed time to go was the period beginning the week after Thanksgiving, up to just a few days before Christmas.

Being from the northern states the weather was excellent by our standards (and it was funny to watch the life guards shiver while we splashed about in what we considered hot weather).  We rarely stood in line.  All the Christmas decorations are out and it was gorgeous.

Downsides...The parks closed early because it was a low season.  Also, they sometimes took a few major attractions off line during this interval for repairs and maintenance, because again, there were fewer people there.

If they still publish it, I strongly recommend buying a book called "The Unofficial Guide to Disney World," and follow their touring plans, within the limits of your flexibilities.  It is well worth the investment.

In addition to the usual stuff you'd take, I'd also buy some inexpensive rain outfits (including both a parka and pants) that will keep you dry.  If you want the park all to yourself, go there on a rainy day.  Dry and snug inside your rain clothes, you and the other 200 people there can wander in and out of attractions without any wait at all.

I think you'll find the beginning of your trip nearly a ghost town at Disney.  Generally people coming to Florida in December wait and do it to visit relatives at Xmas or during kids school breaks (same time frame).  2 weeks before Xmas - I find nearly all the parks very empty.  Towards the end of your trip though, you may see it getting busier - but you'll be long gone before it gets crazy.

It should  not be crowded because kids in the US are still in school. However Xmas time is always a busy time because lots of tourist are in Orlando during that time.  You can call a travel agency to find out or the park itself. Check their website too. Hope this helps.

Tiffany, that's a great time--except for possible your very last day, when the crowds start going up.

It will be much less crowded than the Presdident's day weekend.

That's a GREAT GREAT time to go! Perfect weather, etc. It gets busy the following week for Xmas, but you'll be fine mid December. MGM (now Disney Hollywood Studios) will be busy because of the Osborne Lights event, but other than that, you're good!

Christmas time at Disney is crazy busy.  Both Disney Land and World are Beautiful, the castle is decked out, holiday parades and shows, and snow on main street. I used to have a Disneyland pass, I have found the week immediately after Thanksgiving to the first 10 days or so of December aren't as busy.  Pretty much after the 10th of Dec through New Years, Disney will be crazy crowded.  This is everyone favorite time of the year to go to a Disney Park.  I hope you have reservations now.  Personally, my family has booked for a Thanksgiving trip to World and we did this in February!  Good Luck!!!
