Visiting the Great Lakes

I'm go to school at UofM (Ann Arbor, MI) and plan on spending a day at one of the great lakes before classes start. Where are some good lakeside day-long retreats?

  1. First of all congrats on getting into U of M and I know you will love it there. Unfortunately, Ann Arbor located in the center of the state and all of the lakes border the state. The cleanest and nicest lakes for recreation are Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. If you are willing to take a decent drive north you there are Sand Dunes that are beautiful by Lake Michigan. There is Michigans Great Adventure Theme park there also. Lake Huron has some cool lighthouses and some nice beaches by East Tawas.


  2. ...you might consider one of the ferry-boats that go back and forth on Lake Michigan between Michigan and Wisconsin...theres one in Ludington, Michigan that you can take your car along if you want...the other is a higher speed boat and I'm not sure if they move vehicles or not...theres more info on the net if you're interested...
