Question:

Vista Performance Suddenly Dropping?

Up until a few days ago everything was fine, now its taking up to 5 mins to even open explorer, system is not as responsive.

Am thinking its something to do with the registry but I'm not sure, have checked for viruses and found nothing so far, using AVG.

Vista Ultimate is what im running, have 4 GB of ram but apparently its taking 2 GB just to run slow!!!!

System Restore has failed, ( 40 mins on initialising is failer in my eyes ) . would it be a registary problem or something more than that?

  1. download quick heal total security trial and after installation start a native boot scan for viruses. also use tune up utilities to tune your system and defregmet your hard disk

  2. Right click your start bar at the bottom and select "Task Manager" and organize it by CPU usage and find out which program is hogging your cpu cycles.

Vista typically runs around 2gig of memory so that is not your issue. It is most likely something in your startup.

  3. AVG could be causing the Problem Because it is known to slow down computers, Try Using PC Tools anti-virus, it is very light on your ram and cpu usage. I don't think it is a registry issue. (Click the link)

  4. The system restore disk is full thats why their failing..

Disk clean-up > more options tab > delete system restore points WAIT untill the ok button returns cuz it takes a while in your case, the last restore point is untouched
