Question:

Vista internet randomly goes out?

Hey, I'm having some vista internet troubles.

First, take a look at my computer specs and see if this could contribute to the problem:

Motherboard: MSI P7N Platinum 750i

Processor: Intel Q6600 Quad Core@2.4ghz

Graphics Card: 2x XFX 9600GT's in SLI mode

Memory: 4GB OCZ Reaper

Hard Drive: 150GB WD Raptor

Ok so. When I'm using Windows Vista Home Basic, the internet just randomly goes out. The funny thing is, it still says I'm connected and shows internet activity. But IE7, Firefox, and games don't work. The Ethernet cable is fine, it works on my laptop and the internet works fine when my desktop is running Ubuntu. Also, it's not the router/modem because the internet works on all the other computers in the house fine. Lastly, it's not a virus or spy ware because I scan for those daily and pick up nothing. It's quite a weird scenario...anyone have some ideas?

PS: PLEASE PLEASE DON'T GIVE THE FOLLOWING AS AN ANSWER:

1. Call Geek Squad

2. Buy a new computer

3. Your an idiot, learn to use the computer.

Thanks!

  1. you're an idiot, learn how to use a computer.  No I'm just kidding, Vista is the idiot.  Try going to device manager, and see what kind of network card you have, it'll probably be called something like ethernet adapter.  Then go to the manufacturer's website, and try to see if there is any known issues with Vista and you're network cards' driver.  That's a pretty common problem with Vista.
