  1. All depends upon your athletic ability.

Some players begin in middle school and go on to be stellar players.  Others are average, and don't go any further than high school.  You get out of it what you put in, and you go as far as you are willing to go.

I started in high school - sophomore year.  I had never touched a volleyball before that.  I made the varsity team before the end of the year, and was voted to the 1st team all conference the other two years I was on.  I went on to play at a Big 10 NCAA college for five years (red-shirted for the first year) on a partial scholarship.  I was able to pick it up and play, but I have also always been athletic, and able to pick up sports easily.  I played many sports throughout my school years, but volleyball has always been my favorite.

I now play still - in my mid 30's - in competitive leagues, as well as travel around to play in tournaments all over the country.  I love to play (still), and I think I will play until I die (well, I'd like to).  I played up until I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my daughter, and began playing again 4 weeks after she was born.  It is a year-round thing for me, and I love the game still.

  2. Like any other sport, it is best started at a young age to gain more experience. I suggest 6th or 7th grade. If you're younger than that feel free to start earlier, more practice can't hurt (unless you happen to be doing it wrong). You can join a team at club level, but it costs a lot of money, so if you and your parents are up to the commitment all props to you!

But, if you want to wait, that's fine too. There's a guy on the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) who is one of the top players, even played in the Olympics, and didn't start until he was 18. So if you're a natural athlete, then it depends on how much practice you think you'll need. If not, again, practice usually can't hurt.

As a volleyball player myself the instant I joined volleyball I liked it. But I stunk. So if you don't already play I suggest starting ASAP. It's pretty entertaining too!

    Hope I helped!

  3. Well i LOVE volleyball, it's my favorite sport!! If u want 2 b really good u should start @ a young age but if ur young age is like 4th grade u can start, i only started playing in 7th grade & now i am the captain of my jv volleyball team. If you want it that bad u can work as hard & long as u want. Dont let other people discourge u & not make u want 2 play. Just work hard & u can achieve ur goal! Good Luck!!

  4. Getting started is a good idea but only if the kid wants to. Dont force the child to attend camps and play club unless they want to. To be a good volleyball player practice and determination are key. It is more of a mental game. Starting early good idea but dont force the sport on your kid unless you want them to get burnt out.

  5. I think volleyball is an awesome sport and it is the best adrenaline rush when you hit the ball and it hits the floor. I started playing volleyball when i was 10 and it was fun. I enjoy looking back at the times when i thought i was awesome because i got the ball got over the net. Today i still enjoy playing on my team and just for fun. I love that the game has become more competitive not only for my position(outside hitter) but for mental toughness to keep your cool and not get frustrated.
