Volleybal popularity mens?

i just simply do not understand why mens volleyball has not completely taken off yet i mean...groundshaking spikes should attract people to games... i mean the matches get so intense.... i mean it may be because of the fact that many people think that volleyball is for girls

It depends on where you are from I suppose.  In southern California mens volleyball is practically a religion.  I loved watching it when I grew up, including the old co-ed pro teams they used to have.  So I really don't understand the lack of popularity in the US.  In Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Russia, the Netherlands and other countries it is very popular.  Go figure.

The men's game is unpopular, largely due to the short rallies. Because the men have more power, the rallies tend to be over fairly quickly in comparison to women's.

Also, women tend to be trained better on fundamentals, while men are all about power and domination and tend to have less ball control than the average women's team in comparison.

The major reason is because at young ages, volleyball tends to be looked down upon by boys as a sissy sport because it's not all about jumping on your opponent with the ball or wrestling them to the floor in tight bodysuits.

Because of the possible ridicule, boys who would make good pretty good volleyball players tend to not even try out because of how it will affect their popularity in school. This is unfortunate but it's reality, kids are cruel to anyone that is different.

What boys need to understand is that volleyball was created for men first and foremost and women did not even play the sport until the 1930s.

Secondly, Volleyball is a great way to mingle with women. Much better than getting snapped with a towel by some douchebag named Ty in the locker room after football practice.

I play mens volleyball both for an elite club team and for my school team, and as much as a love to play volleyball I hate to watch it. I've played sports from basketball to lacrosse, and my favorite to play is volleyball and everyone I ask who plays volleyball loves it, but it is too hard to watch for a couple of reasons.

1) At a high level the rallies don't even last 5 seconds. Its just a pass, a set, then a kill, and each team continually gets a side-out, and watching gets repetitive. For girls this isnt true because they dont hit as hard so the rallies are easier to follow and defense becomes more interesting because the ball is actually digable.

2) At a really high level the players make it look to easy. For someone who plays volleyball they know that when they started out it was hard to even get the ball over the net. But at a national team level, they can bounce a ball on the 10-foot-line with out breaking a sweat so for non-volleyball players it is hard to appreciate.

Hopefully this helps you know why its hard to get  a large volleyball fan base. Where I live in southern california or volleyball is a big deal because so many people play it, so drawing a crowd is possible, but some places where sports like football dominate, it is hard to get respect. Volleyball may not be the most popular sport but it is sure fun to play, plus the volleyball players get all the girls.

I agree with you completley, i love watching men's volleyball. I think part of it is that some guys veiw it as being "g*y" but i dont think so. It is sooo much fun to watch!

First two answers were right.

1. I think that here in the U.S. there are a lot of sports opportunities, so volleyball has to compete with many other sports right off.

2. Kids often play what they watch on tv with their dads. Volleyball isn't very well televised, and people would rather watch baseball, basketball, or football.

3. People don't like to watch it is because they don't understand it at all. I bet that less than 5% of the U.S. population has a decent understanding of volleyball strategy. And less than 1% can analyze everything that is going on in a high level match.

4. Offense in the men's game is overly powerful, and is continuing to become more powerful.

5. Title IX caused many men's volleyball programs to be cut. So exposure to the sport went down for guys.

Well, depends on where you are...here in Brazil volleyball is, obviously, crazy popular, and I particularly enjoy the men's game much more than the women's (nevermind I'm a girl, our female team usually chickens out in decisive games and our male team's just a tiny little bit short of unbeatable! :-P), which is the case with many many people if not most.

Girl's game? Please. Watch any SuperLiga (our national championship) or World League game and that opinion will change before the first technical time out. But hey, in the US they say soccer's a girl's game too, right? Go figure! :-P
