  1. This is just a long description, it isn't complicated, just wordy.  Hope this helps.  There are usually 6 players per team, three in the front and three in the back, but it will fluxuate according to the size of your class and the number of nets you have.  The teams volleys(pass) the ball back and forth over the net to see who gets to serve first or sometimes they flip a coin.  The server is the person in the back right corner(when standing on your side facing the net) and the position you are in rotates every time the control of the ball changes.  The idea is to get the ball to hit the ground on the other side of the net.  One player cannot hit the ball two times in a row, another player must hit the ball first.  There are three types of legal hits- only three.  There is the bump- put your hands together and lace your fingers, but keep your thumbs flat, when the ball comes down toward you, try to let the ball bounce off your forearms while giving it a little push.  Then there is the set- hold your hands over your head, index and thumbs almost touching with the rest spread open, bend at the knees and when the ball touches spring your legs and arms up, but don't use your whole palm, because a lift isn't a legal move.  Then we have the spike- for most it is the hardest to master.  Watch the ball, as it comes toward you, bring your hands up and behind your head a little bit, open your right and close your left. Bend your knees and when the ball is about a foot from your hand spring up and slap the ball with your open right hand(usually only done when close to the net).  If the ball hits the floor and is in bounds, congratulate yourself, that was a "kill".  Now there is the serve.  You stand in the corner, out of bounds with left foot pointint in the direction you want the ball to go(this is where the score is said too... You say your team's score, then their's) and you can either throw the ball up and hit it with a fist(thumb or fingers toward the balleither way) or you can throw it up and slap it with an open palm, it just has to be done with one hand.  If the ball goes over and hits the floor, then the person who served, continues to serve until the next rotation.  Don't worry if it doesn't go over, it takes some people a while to get a good serve.  The game is a lot easier when you see it done and actually play it, and when done in school it isn't too competitive and you will have a lot of room for error.  The winner is determined at either 21 or 25 points, my school it was 21 points and then we would switch sides and start another game.  Also, there will be "calling" from other players.  "I got it" is what is said when someone is in position and ready for the ball(they will hit it), "Help" is what someone calls when they hit it, but it isn't going to go over the net.  "Out" will be called if the ball either looks like or is completely out of bounds(passed the line)  If someone calls out, or you see that it is going to go out, call Out and don't hit it. If it goes out, then the other team loses control and your team gets it, then you will rotate and resume play.  Sometimes there are reserve players as well.  During each rotation, a player that was on the court will go off, and a benched player will go in.  You will catch on quick, it's a real fun game, so just enjoy yourself and don't be afraid of the ball.

  2. haha okay, i play varsity highschool, i know my stuff, trust me.

dig= when someone gets a really hard spike that the other team hit. they say "dig it" meaning dig the ball, kinda like keeping it from hitting the ground.

spike= this is when a person, usually the front three people of each side, jump and hit the ball.

set- or the "setter" which is one of 6 position on the court. This person usually gets the 2nd ball and "sets" it up for the spiker to spike it.

you must know that a volleyball court looks like this:

    __l__

with the l being the net.

on each side of the net, there are 6 players, so 12 in total... you can also compromise to compensate less players, two on each side, or three... etc.

Don't be afraid to fall. btw... a volleyball game is played on a "court" like baskeyball, not a field...

    hope u do well.
