Question:

Volleyball or Cross-Country?

I've played volleyball for 4 years in grade school (5th-8th) and 3 years of club. This year I played on the freshman team. I didn't have as much fun as I thought it would, so for next fall I was thinking about joining cross-country. (Also, one of my friends said I should do it with her). The volleyball coach talked with me and she still thinks I should do v-ball, but I'm still thinking cross-country. My parents said they'll support me if I do cross-country, but I know they would rather have me do v-ball since it's what I know. I just want to try something different, to meet new people, and maybe find something that will make me happy. I just have no clue how to convince my parents, they don't understand that I wasn't happy (I had a lot of trouble adjusting to high school, I only knew a few people and I didn't have any real close friends). I have no idea what to do, and I feel really stuck. Any ideas, please?

  1. Is there any way you can do both?

I have participated in volleyball, basketball, track&field, and cross-country for a long time and I can say that volleyball is probably a much better choice. Unless you like running, that is. Volleyball takes more skill and cross country takes a lot of endurance. It is always good to try new things, however. Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck!

  2. I have the same problem! I'm super tall and played jv volleyball for the first time this year. Its fun and the varsity v-ball coach told me to try out but varsity is no joke. At the same time, I do track and field and the XC coach recommended me to try out. Friends are pulling me both ways. But I think I'll do V-ball, for XC you must run all summer, keep food logs, etc. Its no joke.

However, for you, try XC for a year and see if you like it. Its really chill and running together allows you to make a lot of new friends. Track & field in the spring is really fun too! :D

  3. I love both sports so I perfer both. When telling your parents explain to them that you didn't really have fun and yuo want to try something different.  Tell them that you need change and you will do volleyball again (even if you won't) and that you also want to make new friends.  If they are afraid your gonna quit show them this summer how commited you are to it.

  4. do volleyball! this year i played for varsity as a freshman and it was fun! ive played 4 years of club. trust me i have a friend on cross country and its hard! but volleyball gets better once you get to jv and varsity! but do what ever you want. but my vote is volleyball!

  5. Trying different things is great, but do you love and I mean love running? THe practices are 2hours every day after school and running at least 3-5 miles a practice. You just have to love running.

  6. volleyball

  7. Do what you want to do, i would of course pick volleyball. But if meeting new people is what you want to do, then I'd go with cross country.

Im sure you'll have fun with whatever you do.
