hi.

Question regarding rule on tossing the ball.

From what i have read: Beach volleyball, (2 vs 2), the ball is not allowed to be spun on the toss.

indoor volleyball: no mention of spinning the ball on toss. therefore legal.

Am i allowed to spin the ball on the toss playing outdoors grass\sand, if there are 6 players to a side like indoor volleyball?

if anyone knows can they provide an up todate source, so i can argue strongly if questioned about the legality of this.

  1. I just read through section 16 of the USA Volleyball beach regulations and I see nothing about spin.  It is nearly impossible to toss the ball without spin so I can't imagine why it would be in the rules.  You should be able to do it, indoor, outdoor, 6's, doubles, triples, etc.,...

Local places have their own "house rules" but this is not a general rule.

Check out the FIVB beach rules section 16 in the link below.  That is for international play.

  2. I love seeing questions about rules.  However, this time I was beaten to the correct answer by El Gigante.

I can not find a real rule stating that spinning the ball is illegal before the serve.  I also checked the USAV and FIVB rules.  It must be a "house" rule as stated above.
