Volleyball tryouts... I'm so nervous?

Ok well, I'm going to be a freshmen this year, and all of my friends and I are going to tryout for JV. The tryouts are on Aug. 16. I have been playing for a while... since I was in 5th grade and I'm 5'6". I have been practicing a lot over the summer and have gone to a few camps. I am just really nervous about the tryouts. I have never had to tryout for volleyball before and have no idea what to expect! I'm freakin out here! I want to be as ready as a can so that I can make the team. I have all of the basic skills down, but I just can't pull myself to dive for the ball. Is that bad? IDK what to do.

I need some advice!

  2. o well um i um im to dumb to answer this qwestion....

  3. you will do fine. just practice everyday for at least an hour. play with your sibling(s) or parents. trust me.

  4. I have volleyball tryouts tomorrow, and I've been playing on the team for the past 2 years. At tryouts, we usually do serving drills where we serve to the six zones on the floor. As a JV player, I don't think that your coaches would worry that much if you don't know how to aim the ball to a certain zone.My coaches are happy that you can get the ball over the net.Where I live, there aren't many camps available locally so I think that you should do pretty well. There will also be passing drills & hitting/spiking drills. We have 2 days of tryouts. We cover all of the things i mentioned earlier along with running & types of agility.

I think that after playing awhile diving will come naturally. That's how it was for me.I never want to let the ball hit the floor so without thinking about it I'm usually diving to get to it.When you really get into the game and want to win, you probably won't even think about it.It's just a reaction for me.I never think about it before I do it.

You won't have to dive for all balls. Most of the time you just have to move to the ball.If the coach doesn't feel that you are a strong back row player who can dig balls, you could just be a hitter. When I was trying out for the first time, I focused on my strong point which was passing because I'm not that great of a hitter.Maybe you have a strong point to.If you do, focus on that.Just don't sweat it or freak out because seeing that you've been practicing and going to camps, I think that you will do just fine.Just relax and have fun because it's not really worth it if you're not having fun.

I hope you make the team.Good luck =]

  5. There is really no need to be nervous. High school sports really aren't that much competition for try outs (depending on the size of your school)...If you've played before and your any good you're almost guarenteed on the team. And everyone else is just as nervous. They don't just pick on talent either. Its a bit of a popularity contest cuz they pick people that will fit in with the team. They wont pick someone that everyone hates. So since you're going with people, it makes you fit in. Just make sure you pay attention to the coach and look like you're actually excited to play, rather than spending your time talking to friends and stuff and you'll be fine, especially since it sounds like you're an alright player. As far as dives, you'll likely work with you to fix that.. thats why there is a coach!

  6. I am also going to be a freshman this year, and I am trying out for the volleyball team.  I have been having open gyms all summer, and conditioning all this week, so even though try outs aren't until next week, I think the coaches already know who will be on what team.  So although I haven't gone through try outs,  they will probably look at your basic skills, by doing passing, setting, and hitting drills.  You will probably also do some target passing drills.  What we have to do during practice is serve ten serves and count how many we get right.  Then we have to tell the coach our number.  You have to stay very focused.  Diving after the ball is something you need to do.  The coaches never want the ball to touch the ground.  Give it your all, stay focused, and go for the ball.

    Good luck at try-outs!
