Volunteer opportunities in Accounting?

What can I do to volunteer for an Accounting firm or something? what are some 'positions' I can seek to help me decide if an Accounting degree is for me?

  1. I'll bet someone can offer you an internship.  Ask your school first, and then ask some of the kinds of firms you'd like to work at.  Also consider asking some nonprofit organizations locally: they may know their accounting firm and whether they could use you.  And I'd ask at banks, too.


  2. during tax season you can help the poor and elderly with tax returns.  you can also volunteer accounting services to a charitable organization.

  3. You could try setting up what they call "informational interviews" with a few CPA's and bookkeepers in town.  Call a few and ask if they could maybe schedule a time when you could just ask them what they do, what they like and don't like about it, and maybe observe them for a few minutes.  You'll get some rejections, but I'll bet you'll find several that are willing to help you out since you're genuinely interested.
