Volunteer work for veterans?

I've been kicking around civic involvement and volunteering for awhile, as I've just moved to a new town, and have realized that the way I want to go is volunteer to work with veterans, as I haven't served time in the military and won't, but still can help them.

Does anybody have any places I can check out to get involved in this?

  1. Yes, try the Veterans Hospital in your area, they are always short handed in the volunteering department.  There is wide range of departments within the VA hospital, you could help in.  Before moving to another state, I was very active with helping Veterans, at the VA hospital, and the Homeless Veterans.  If you stick with them at the VA hospital, one day there might be a very nice job offer for you.

Volunteering at the VA hospital, will help you see what it would take in certain feilds, if you decide to go into the medical training.  There is also college tuitions for people who want to train and work for Veterans Hospitals.  By the way VA will buy your lunch if you volunteer for them.
