Volunteering for under 16's?

I would really like to volunteer (UK) but am under 16. Work is available in some charity shops but it would be good if I could be a bit more involved (ie. caring for old people). Any info and sites would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure for UK I live in US.  Volunteer at a nursing home or even a Hospice if you can.  I am sure any and all help would be appreciated.  Here some groups such as girl or boy scouts go to a nursing home and "adopt" a grandparent.  Good Luck.
