  1. PR have voted in status plesbicites just three times, not ten.  First in 1967, and two more during the 90's.  In all of them votes for statehood had increased, but have not reached mayority of casted votes.  In the last plebiscite the opinion who won was "None of the above" so the "status quo" remained as is.  If the votes for "None of the above" are discarded, statehood would won that plebiscite.

    Basically current % are:

    * 42% to 45% of puertorricans favors the statehood for PR (these numbers have grown since 1967).

    * 42% to 45% of puertorricans favors the current commonwealth status (or with few changes)

    * 3% to 5% of puertorricans favors independence for PR

    * Whatever percentage left are undecided and shift their preferrence to one side or the other form time to time.

However, the votes unti now have been just an "opinion polls" or "peagant contests", because they lacked congressional binding that if the winning alternative be different than the current status the Congress would act to implement the alternative selected.

    US Income tax?

    * Only federal employees working at PR pay income tax to the IRS.

    * We paid other taxes (medicare, SSI, etc.)

    * Certain business in PR have to pay federal taxes.

    * We pay income tax to our local tax auhority (Dept. de Hacienda)

As a territory without the right to vote for the President, the USA Constitution establish we are not to pay federal income tax.  If americans want us to pay federal income tax they need to give us the right to vote for the President in November elections (not just participation in the presidential candidates primaries).

  2. I'm pretty sure it was three times.

Yes we do pay some US taxes.

Contrary to common misconception, residents of Puerto Rico pay some U.S. federal taxes: import/export taxes, federal commodity taxes, social security taxes, etc. Most residents do not pay federal income tax but pay federal payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare), and Puerto Rico income taxes. But federal employees, or those who do business with the federal government, Puerto Rico-based corporations that intend to send funds to the U.S. and others also pay federal income taxes.

  3. We can Not  Vote  to become  a  State..that's  a  washington decision..

We have  made  at least  3  Plebicitos...that's  an Opinion Poll  that is  taken to Washington ...but  when and  If  the  US goverment decides to make Puerto Rico a State...is  their  Decision  NOT Ours

  4. look it up yourself

  5. I believe there have been 3 referendums to deside the issue and they all have been a very close tie but the commonwealth status has prevailed in all 3. We pay an outrageously high income tax to the local government or Hacienda, which is our version of the United States IRS. Some federal employees pay both PR and US income tax and some other trade taxes to the US. However we do not pay any property or real estate taxes for housing valued at less than $250 thousand, I believe that`s the figure more or less. I hope this answers your questions, good luck.

  6. Actually, PR has voted NOT to become a state about 3 times.  I wish It would be a state, but I doubt that will ever happen, since people here like to be in limbo.  And yes we pay income taxes, and a whole bunch of other taxes too.

  7. I've heard about 6 times
