Taking classes in a school you are not physically present in. Today it usually means learning online.

Taking classes off campus on your own time...usually videos or online.  You do the work at your own connivence but generally have specific dates to have the work done by.  I have taken several of these and think they are better than real classes!

Distance Learning is usually classes that are taken away from the main campus of the school either by online, on a special tv channel, or videos of the lessons for the classes you are taking.
