WHere Does Watre Go?

Question

I recently flush toliet. Like many before, I watch hipnotic swirl of water and I wonder "where aere you off to?" This if a puzzle to me, and my girlfriend.

It depends.

If there is a septic tank at the end of your sewage, the top runs off into a nearby stream. A city sewer collects all that and treats it in sewage treatment plant and lets go a good part of it into a river. River empties into a Sea or Ocean, the final destination. Subsoil seepage too reaches a river.

It goes to the plumbing in your house.  Ultimately there is no way of giving a reliable final destination.

if you live in the UK it comes back to you, they end up drinking it again & get charged for it, mind you the place is one big toilet - let them drink on.
