WTA ranking question?

The mystery has been solved on how Ivanovic is still number one....LA is currently being counted twice to those who played it this year and last year.....how is that fair?!

Apparently LA ended in agust so i guess the computer ranking can't erase it until that date which is stupid :-p.....watever

You are correct that Ivanovic is receiving double points for the LA tournament on the 52 week ranking systems.  The LA tournament had to be moved up this year prevent a conflict with the Olympics.  

Is this fair that she is receiving double points, I think so since it is based on the tournaments you play during the past 52 weeks and it just happens that this tournament moved a couple weeks earlier.  During the tennis season there are tournaments every week for the players to receive points, so while tournament dates and locations can change every year, the players have the opportunity to get points towards their ranking every week.  Of course different tournaments have different point values(the grand slams are tier I with the most points, LA is a tier II) and that is where the system becomes slightly unfair in this specific case.  

Also while Ivanovic is rank #1 in the WTA's 52-week system, she is ranked #2 in the WTA's race system which is a better indicator of who will end the year with the #1 ranking. (Jankovic is #1 in race system)
