Russia is taking back its former satellites. There exists credible evidence that this invasion has been planned for quite some time, and the coordination of Russia's military certainly supports this.

Russia has been antagonizing Georgia for several years now. In March of 2007 a Georgian village was attacked by 3 Russian helicopters. In August of 2007 two Russian fighter jets penetrated Georgian airspace and fired a missile into the Georgian-controlled village of Tsitelubani, the missile did not detonate. In September of 2007, the Russian Ambassador to Georgia was recorded as saying, "the Georgian people are a dying-out nation... Russia is a large country, a huge country. It can digest this. You, the Georgians, will fail to digest this." In April 2008, a Russian MiG-29 shot down a Georgian unmanned unarmed aerial vehicle (UAV) over Abkhazia, prompting international condemnation. Russia suggested that maybe the plane belonged to a NATO member.  In response, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer reportedly remarked that "he'd eat his tie if it turned out that a NATO MiG-29 had magically appeared in Abkhazia and shot down a Georgian drone." The next week Russia began building up its forces (or "peacemakers" on the Georgian border. The successive events are well known to us all now.

If Russia is able to topple the democratically-elected Georgian government, then it will be a signal to the other former satellites that this will be the punishment for seeking democracy.

They just felt they would show a small country who was boss. As usual a big country bullying a small one. Who knows, maybe they were looking for WMDs. They all do it, don't they.

I would love to know the same thing, but what I want to know even more is, WHY ISN'T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING?

They are invading a soverign nation that was once part of the ussr which leads some speculation that vladmir putin and his puppet president are slowly trying to retake what was once the ussr. So this has pissed off the other most powerful nations in the world which are all part of the G-8 aka, US, Great Britan, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, And Germany.

P.S Russia is the 8 who may now be kicked out for attacking a soverign nation for no good reason.

Georgia has attacked South Osetia and killed a lot of citizens and Russian peacemakers (Georgian, Russian and Ossetian peacemakers are there after conflicts happened in 90's). Russia didn't like that and punished Georgia.

Russia is back, and like 30 years ago, they will do as they want, like the USA.   and there is only room on the earth for one arrogant country,  the USA will not want to lose their title
