Walmart betta fish.?

Question

This is just a question to hear your personal stories with walmart's fish department. At my walmart the Betta's are barley covered in water! My and my friend are planning on buying betta food, tropical fish flake and goldfish flake. Then we will but medicines for all the common diseases along with stress coat and bottled water. The we would go in, feed all the fish, treat all the unhealthy tanks for diseases they had and stress coat them, then fill all the betta cups! But my mom would kill me if I did that...so I will stick with being furious and complaining! Do you have any personal stories about walmarts fish?

beta fish are pretty hardy. They don't require that much room and water. They'r natural labyrinth breather. In their natural habitat, they actually live in mud.

Betta's sell fast. They can't be paired in a tank with other bettas. Having 5 gallon tanks and heaters, and filters for 1 Betta would be quite costly for a merchant. I guess I'm lucky. They guy who works for  Wal-mart as the Pet Manager for 15 years now is very professional, and knows his stuff. Whenever I go into this Wal-mart pet section the waters are clear blue, no dead fish, the betta cups are always clean. I am a frequent shopper at Wal-mart.  I got my 5 betta fish from Pet smart. They are still kicking I've had them for 8 months now. I don't like sometimes when I see at Pet smart dead fish, and dirty betta cups. Maybe you can find a different Wal-mart with better service to shop. I wouldn't spend money at a store I didn't like something about. Good Luck

People who know anything about buying healthy fish do not shop at big box stores.  Bettas end up being stored in cups because its one of the the only economical ways for a store to carry them.  They can't be kept together, and they can survive in less than other fish.  Pint sized cups would not be so bad for them if they received 2 water changes per day.  This is very doable in a pet store with thousands of gallons of cycled water on hand.  Unfortunately, places like Walmart tend to hire uneducated people who do not know how to maintain their fish.  As a result, the Bettas are lucky if they get one water change per week.

I rescued my Betta from Wal-Mart.   They had at least a dozen Betas, and several were dead, and the rest looked really close.  The water was filthy in all of them, all brown with chunks floating in it, and in my particular Beta's cup it was below the halfway mark, it just barely covered him.  Almost every one was diseased as well.  My Beta had fin rot, and he lost more than 1/2 his tail before the clean water and medicine I gave him turned him around.  I'm never buying another fish at Wal-Mart again, that's for sure.  I realize that I was only feeding the system by saving the one I got, but I couldn't turn him away.

walmart fishes in my store are in cups too so is my petsmart. i saw a betta at walmart the other day and he was dead!!!! it was soooooo sad!!!! when i usually look at the bettas at walmart i feel so sad and i just want to buy them all they look like they are lonely and theyre always at the bottom!!!!! my petsmart does the same thing and some how the water is blue in every betta cup. =( its just so sad and very terrible. they arent even caring for the fishes in walmart either its like a dessert in that section in that store!!!!! =(((

Well I have always gotten my bettas at Petco, I know, not the best place to get any animal. Trust me, I was heartbroken for weeks when my corn snake died because I purchased it there. Well first off, Walmart and Petco are two prime examples of horrible care, in my opinion, which is why I want to get a job just helping the animals there. Whenever I look at the little tiny betta cups, I find about 10/40 that are just lying there dead! I completely disagree and want to do the same thing that you do. Suprisingly, the bettas I got from Petco lived over 5 years. How lucky am I? I sure hope I made their lives much better than living in that aweful little cup. :) I think everyone can agree when I say that I am going to a real fish store to get my fish.

I agree with you... it makes me so sad to see those guys on the little side racks in just a little bit of dirty water. We got one from Walmart and she lived for about a year. Walmart is the worst.
