Was I being racist or rude?

I went to KFC and this (though it doesn't matter) black boy served me. I waited 10 minutes to get served by him and half an hour for food and it was not even busy. The boy was so slow and laughed and joked around and danced and sang as he prepared the meals. I said I have been waiting ages. When will it be ready. Then when he gave it to me it was falling apart, was not wrapped up and was not made nicely. I said it is terrible. Please make it again. He looked at me as if to say :How dare you talk to me like that. I am black and acted as if I was being racist. Not that he said it outright. I said leave it and left the store. Was I being rude?

  1. He didn't say you were being racist. He didn't say anything to imply you were racist. If you think him looking at you implies that you are racist, then that's your own latent guilt, racial insecurity, or what have you, and you need to deal with that on your own.

Although, for the record, it IS racist to refer to a black person as a "boy." I mean, even if he's a teenager or something, you wouldn't describe him (or anyone really) as a "boy," that's a bit too old for such a term to be appropriate, and with black people it can have racist connotations. But I don't think you mean any sort of racism there.

As far as being rude, no you weren't being rude, unless you said what you said in an exceptinally rude way. But I wasn't there, so I wouldn't know.

But honestly, who waits literally a half hour for food at KFC when it's not busy? Or even when it is busy? You know, they use a pressure cooker at KFC, which cooks fast, along with the fact that they make it in shifts...anything over a few minutes is abnormal, when you get to 10 minutes, even if it's busy, I'd say that's exceptionally bad. But a half hour?

And for the record, you shouldn't eat KFC anyway, their food is filled with chemicals, and their treatment of animals is exceptionally bad...I mean, even compared to other fast food chains it's terrible.

  2. LOL....this question is almost unbelievable.

  3. no not at all i would have gotten my money back and went somewhere else after waiting that long , the most i will wait if they are not busy is the 10 minutes ,

that was bologna, i would have asked to speak to the manager or something ,

after all it is called fast food for a reason,

its not like they had to kill the chicken themselves,, LOL

  4. You were given poor service and had the guts to say something about it.  I wish I had the guts to do the same.  You were not being racist or rude.  He is being paid to provide good service to customers and he didn't do so.

  5. Under the circumstances you were neither rude nor racist.. the service at the place sucks.. if it was solely his fault or that of the person who worked in the kitchen I don't know but black, white yellow or red.. I would have been fed up with his behaviour and not because he happened to be black at all I would have been upset just the same if he had been white and if he had looked like Prince William. With his attitude.. I believe it is normal to act the way you did.. it was mainly his attitude that would have made me say a lot more things to him .. not his skin colour at all.. but he was slow and he gave c**p service.. for that he may look as great as the best looking bloke I know .. that doesn't excuse bad manners... and it's nothing to do with skin colour.. you acted normal considering his behaviour and attitude towards a customer.. .xx

  6. it dont matter what race he was his azz was bein rude and disrespectful and its cool you called him out..i'm black and i hate when black people pull that no this white person aint talkin **** to me.. and sometimes black people could be just as racist as white people. by the way.. no you werent bein racist or rude

  7. No, that was poor customer service, and the kid was being obnoxious!

  8. no you were not, you did not even mention anything about his race. you simply waited on food and when you received it, it was badly made. you had every right to ask for another meal, it was their fault anyway.

  9. I find it ridiculous how people have been made to feel as though they are a racist when they are just expecting the same courtesy and good service they would from anyone.  In a way, I think you would be a racist if you treated someone differently because of their color, ethnicity, or race than you would someone who was the same as you. Ask yourself this, would you have been upset if it had been a person of the same race, color, or ethnicity as you who had given you the poor service? It sounds to me, from what you said, that the answer is yes. Then, I say you were 100% in the right, and I hope you didn't pay for it, or that you got your money back before you left. A good thing to do would be to speak to the manager about this. You would be doing that young man a favor in the long run. If he is expecting to go through life having special treatment and not having to treat other people right, then he is headed for a life of trouble. He was the one being rude, not you. He didn't do a good job, he gave lousy service and was discourteous.

  10. No. He needs to do his job properly.

  11. well yeah ur being racist by stating it was a black boy

why does that matter if hes black

a white boy coulda done that, a mexican or chinese, or any

other ethnic group. yeah your rude go get some manners

  12. There is no excuse for poor service. The server should have apologised. You should NOT feel guilty. A lot of folks think they can use race as an excuse for anything. Ain't gonna happen. We are all members of the same race anyway. The HUMAN race. If a person can't act human don't worry about their feelings.

  13. "Boy"? Yeah, you may be a bit racist. I do scout out fast food joints, though, before going in because many of them are poorly managed. My time is important.

  14. I dont think so. KFC is kind of a FAST food place so he shouldnt' of made you wait that long. You weren't being racist or rude just impatient.

  15. Since you would have done this with anyone who was serving you, you are not being racist.  Since the meal was not put together properly and took so long to make considering the lack of customers, you were not being rude to reject it.  People have to perform their job within a reasonable time and in the expected way.

I don't think it was racist to mention that this young man was black.  You were trying to find out if what you did was specifically demeaning to him because of his race and that your race is different from that.  No, it was not.  And he would be foolish to think it was.

Sometimes we will wait for what seems like forever to be served and accept less than perfect meals because we are hungry, it is unusual for the particular place, or whatever.  That doesn't require we always be overly patient.

  16. no he was

  17. No, you weren't rude, you were being a customer.

  18. you should have asked for a manager way before the half hour of wating was up.

  19. well since nobody insinuated that you were being racist, and your own thoughts put that into your head, maybe you are.

I don't think it was rude though.
