Was Mauritius damaged by a tsunami?

Question

My boyfriend seems to think that a place was completely wiped out-as in,gone forever- by a tsunami (the big one which hit China or Japan a couple of years back) but as far as I know Mauritius still exists,so was it? and if not,was anywhere else wiped out-practically completely-by this tsunami?

As I recall, it did sustain some damage, however it was not wiped out, and is recovering quite nicely.
