Wat is 504 plan?

I have been snooping thru my parents email and noticed my mom talking about a 504 plan to my teachers and guidance counselor but never went into detail. Wat is this? I also remember going through a series of tests at my skool but didn't know y, does this hav anything to do with it? Do I have a disability? They are also redoing it after my grades dropped leading me to think there hiding something from me. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

A 504 Plan is to make accommodations for a student who would not qualify for Sp. Ed. but who has some sort of problem that interferes with their ability to learn.  You know you shouldn't be snooping at your mom's email, but your mom shouldn't be keeping this from you either.  Ask her why you took that series of tests, and hopefully she'll explain what is going on.  Get the line of communication open.

Do you have ADD or a medical condition like diabetes?  Usually 504 are for kids who have disabilities but they are so mild that they do not really need help from most teachers...but they do need protection almost from others.  

Kids with 504s usually can manage with regular education but need extra time to finish a test up or would do better taking a test in a quieter place than a filled classroom.  (My sis had a 504 for both reasons and got to have the same testing situation when she went to college.)    The other reasons could be that you have a medical condition like diabetes or sickle cell and need for absences not to be counted against you.

My guess is that someone - a teacher, counselor or parent - thought you might have a learning disability.  They gave you those tests, but you do not have a learning disability.  You may some issues with testing, etc and they want to give you some extra time on tests.  

You will not be in special education if you given a 504 plan, but a special education teacher is often the one who gave you part of the tests or played some other role in it.

They were trying to help when they did this.  Extra time on tests is good... think longer time to take the SATs, take an essay test, etc.
