Water wont stop going in

Question

i just bought a new house with a kenmore built in dishwasher. i tried to run a cycle and when i opened dishwasher to check if it was running there was no water in it. i looked under my sink and realized there was a shut off valve for. i turned the valve on and water started coming out of the side into the washer. the problem is that the water doesnt turn off, it keeps filling the washer through every cycle and after the washer turns off. any ideas??? sorry i dont have the model number.
