Wedding Response Cards

Question

Is it etiquette to put the names of my guest on the response cards? We are working with a tight budget and want to make sure that only the people that are invited and respond in a timely matter are the only ones who come to our reception.

you put who you want on the inner envelope.So if you only want aunt sue and uncle bob to come (not there children) you would address the outer as Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith. the inside would be Bob and Sue Smith.

Generally the response cards say

and they fill in their names

you should not put their names on the response card - The people you are inviting will be on the address envelope

"Mr. & Mrs. John Smith"

or

Mr & Mrs John and Mary Smith

OR

Mr & Mrs John Smith and family

or

Mr. John Smith and guest

any one of these is specific as to who is invited. If you do not want children there, you should put on the response card that the reception is an adult only event,

I think I understand what you are asking.  Of course, you would put their names on the envelope but, if you want to be sure that they can only respond with the specific people you invited, put their names on the response card as well, so they get that those are the only people invited and the only ones that should be coming.  You can also fill in the number, like if you are inviting only the parents, but you know they Have children who you are not inviting, put "2" where the number goes.
