So I am FINALLY getting married. I am wondering what parties to have. Let me explain. My cousin just got married and had a wedding shower, jack and jill, rehearsal dinner and of course the after wedding reception. Is this typical? Also what type of things go on at each of these parties...?

  1. usually you don't have a weddig shower AND  jack and jill. it should be one or the other. and yes, you should have a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.

  2. there's also the bachelorette and bachelor parties. don't forget those.

  3. Wedding Shower: is usually a girls only party. The guest of honor (i.e. the bride), will probably get miscellaneous household goods and lots of lingerie. The bridal shower is usually thrown by the maid-of-honor, but others can organize this event as well. Expect goofy games, luncheon snacks, and cake and punch.

Rehearsal Dinner: for the wedding party, but often expands to include family members as well. If you're like my family, expect this to be a mini-version of the following wedding day. Expect your maid-of-honor to be near your side, as you may spend a large chunk of the evening with your arms wrapped around the porcelain god, not realizing how nervous getting married can make a gal.

Bachelor/Bachelorette Party: Expect lots of raunchy behavior and heavy drinking. Fortunately, many people behave themselves, but if you're like my best friend, you will end up visiting the ER the night before your wedding while the groom tries to explain that the tampon-like cotton wads crammed up his nose were not the result of a well-deserved beating from the strip club's security team.

I have no idea what Jack/Jill is. Sound fun. Some people like engagement parties also.

    Congratulations. Party on, Dude.
