Wedding invitation question?

I am trying to figure out the best way to address my wedding invitations... I bought a calligraphy set, and although it looks better then normal pen writing its deffinately not *professional* looking. I don't particularly want to pay to have them done professionally... is it tacky to print out labels? We paid around 200 dollars for our invitations... What do you reccomend?

  1. It is considered tacky to print out labels. Handwritten is much better. I don't know that a calligraphy set is the way to go though. They can be messy and spill ink. I would recommend a calligraphy marker, which is pretty much made for this kind of thing. They are easy, neat, and make your handwriting look elegant. Good luck!

  2. I personally think that hand written invitations are best, even if they are not "professional". One of my close friends has beautiful handwriting and she did most of mine for me.

  3. It really is against "proper" wedding etiquette to print out your labels.  Printing out your label tells the guest that you didn't care enough about them to take the time to hand write their name and address (or at least to pay someone to do it for you).

but, you know your family and friends better than us.  If they are ok with it, then go ahead and do it.  Just pick a nice font, use quality ink, and print on clear labels to make them stick out as little as possible.

  4. I used to hand address wedding invitations for wealthy folks for a second income for some years while going to college.  I understand the problem.  Since you probably don't have a light box, have you considered drawing a very fine pencil line across the invitation envelope and using that to keep your lettering even?  Then  you use one of those plastic erasers (white ones), as they erase very cleanly (make sure ink has completely dried - varies depending on how much humidity is in the air) to erase the lines.

If it still looks awful, just hand print the addresses using a nice pen.  It is way better than printing out labels. If you absolutely insist upon it, I agree with the other poster. Just use clear labels.

  5. When you get an invitation do you pay attention to the address label? I don't. Do what is best for your situation. It is *your* wedding and you can do as you please :) Blessings and congratulations!

  6. Haven't you heard?! According to Martha Stewart, fold over labels are all the rave!

  7. You can print them out on clear labels and do them in a nice script font.

I've seen many people do that for their weddings because they didn't have the time to learn calligraphy or the money to pay anyone else to do it.

I personally taught myself calligraphy. It was something that I had wanted to learn anyway, so it was fun for me - but I also gave myself a lot of time to learn it.

I think using clear labels is the best way to go...

  8. My Mother did the wedding invitations in calligraphy. It looked good BEFORE they were sent in the mail but when I went to my friends house and saw her invite to my wedding, there ink was smeared from oily hands and fingerprints were all over the envelope. She laughed it off but goodness you thought that my invite was pulled out of the trash.

I would of gone with labels or something.

  9. I printed the names and addresses on the envelopes, but honestly I don't see anything wrong with using clear labels.  Just make sure the font you choose is easily readable so the post office knows where to send the invites.

  10. I am actually printing it directly on my envelopes rather than using labels, but I see nothing wrong with that option as well :)
