I know that when you walk into the room theres a table with name cards and then somewhere on there is the table #. Then when my guest go to there table should I put another name card(just there name) infront of there chair that way they kno exactly where to sit. and also so the waiters will be able to kno who had chicken or steak by color cordinating them? I just dont know if brides usually have 2 sets of name cards or just the one at the door...please help its been boggling my mind.

  1. Well. I just went to a wedding, and when we walked in the door, there were our names on the place cards, and a glass of champagne for each person. They when we got to the actual table, there was alist in a picture frame with all our names it. I guess if people get lost and don't know where they're sitting and cant find their table number, that they can look for their name? As far as the food was concerned they didn't ask. They just brought it out and said "Who had the...." and that's it. I like the idea of knowing in advance what the person would be having for dinner, but about where they are actually sitting, in front of their chair, they may not actually want to sit next to the person that you have them assigned to sit next to. So they may change it on you.

One set at the door will work just fine.

  2. I only had one set of cards.

When your guest send back who is coming and who is having what  you give that to the place where your having the reception and they will know who gets what!

    Best of luck!

  3. only one name card, on the table by the door, then the guests figure out themselves where they sit at each table.  don't concern yourself with who sits next to who, you have enough to worry about besides that.  then the waiters come around and ask everyone at each table what their dinner order was, so they know what to serve each person.

  4. You only need one set of place cards. You put a table number on it and put table numbers on the table. Let your guests decide where at the table they would like to sit.

On the placecards note what each person ordered. You can do this on the front by the name or on the back. Your guests will understand what this is for. If not, the waitstaff will ask your guests. It's not that big of a deal.

A cute idea that we've used at events where I work are rubber stamps. On the back of the place cards we stamp them with the desired menu item: a fish (for fish), a chicken (for chicken), a cow (for beef), a pig (for pork) and an ear of corn (for veggie). We also color coordinate the stamp ink sometimes (in order: blue, yellow, red, pink and green).

  5. I'm a bridal consultant, and have been to many, many weddings.  Generally, the bride will assign tables, and let those sitting at the table choose which seat to sit in.  You can go so far as to assign each seat, but it makes it more complicated if someone doesn't show up, because you've got to change 2 sets of cards.  I would simply have the tables numbered, assign groups of 8 or 10 (however many each table sits) to each table, and leave it at that.  If someone backs out or can't make it at the last minute, then it's easier to simply switch out individual cards at the last minute.

  6. its 1 set of card by the door. The waitstaff is still going to take dinner orders. They ask for the orders in advance in an effort to reduce wasted food and to save money.

  7. When I did my place cards, I punched two holes near the top and threaded ribbon through them- pink meant salmon, black meant prime rib, and one of each meant one of each. That way the wait staff knew what to serve, but the cards coordinated with my wedding colors.
