Wednesday's NBA round-up
Paul Pierce scored his 20,000th point on Wednesday night as the Boston Celtics beat the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime 105-102. Pierce scored 12 of his 28 points in OT and Rajon Rondo again had a big game scoring 17 points and handing out 15 assists to help the Celtics improve to a 4-1 record.
Pierce becomes just the 36th member of the 20,000 point club. "You don't see that often that a player accomplishes the feat with one team. Five years ago, I would never have imagined I would score 20,000 points in a Celtics jersey. I was a disgruntled player," Pierce said.
Kobe Bryant recorded his 17th career triple-double helping the Los Angeles Lakers improve to 5-0 as they comfortably beat the Sacramento Kings 112-100.
Bryant finished the night with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists proving too much for Tyreke Evans and the Kings. All of the Lakers' starters scored in double figures with Pau Gasol scoring 22 and Lamar Odom chipping in with 18 of his own.
Whilst one team in LA is unbeaten the other team in town finally got off the mark with a win at the fifth time of trying. Eric Gordon scored 27 points as The Los Angeles Clippers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 107-92.
Rookie Blake Griffin scored 18 points and had nine rebounds and back-up point guard Eric Bledsoe - filling in for the injured Baron Davis - scored 17 points with eight assists.
It was the unbeaten vs the winless in Atlanta as the Hawks hosted the Detroit Pistons. Led by Josh Smith's 22 points the Hawks handed the Pistons their fifth defeat of the season and helped the Hawks remain the only undefeated team in the East, winning 94-85.
The Orlando Magic scored a franchise record 78 first-half points as they eased to a 128-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Dwight Howard scored 18 points, took down 16 rebounds and blocked eight shots and Vince Carter scored 20 points with seven assists as Orlando improved to a 2-1 record.
Carmelo Anthony's 20 points and 15 rebounds weren't good enough to stop his Denver Nuggets losing to Dirk Nowitzki's Dallas Mavericks.
Nowtizki scored 35 points to go along with 12 rebounds as the Mavericks took a closely fought game 102-101. The result could have been much different if Anthony's last second shot hadn't rimmed out.
Elsewhere, Monta Ellis scored 39 points for the Golden State Warriors against the Memphis Grizzlies in a 115-109 win. That bettered the 35 from Memphis' Rudy g*y and helped the Warriors to their third win of the season.
