Question:

Weekends in France...?

I live in Paris but want to travel a bit. I haven't had time yet to see much of France (went to Strasbourg and Normandie). Any advice on where I should go? I would leave on Friday afternoon and come back on Sunday.

Thanks :)

  1. While living in Paris, we enjoyed trips to Mont St Michel (we went by car and stopped at a pottery town on the way back, but can't remember the name) Luxembourg, Brugge in Belgium, to various wine growing areas, especially Bordeaux.  Maybe a little longer than a weekend trip, but we enjoyed an overnight train to Rome. Overnight train to Cannes was also great.  Prague is fantastic, driving around Ireland was a lot of fun, shopping and a show in London with our teenage daughter was a good trip. Day trip to Chartres is worthwhile.  The Loire Valley and all its castles is beautiful. So much to see and do .... and wonderful little restaurants to discover everywhere, you can't hardly go wrong!

  2. Around Paris - not much more than 200 kms :

    Troyes

    Amiens

    Rouen

    Reims

    Chartres

    Caen

    Deauville

    Honfleur

    Trouville

    Dieppe

    Fecamp

    Lille

    Arras

Great locations - great visits -

You'll find awsome accomodation through the " Guide des chambres d'hôte de charme " best B&Bs.

Being in France and having WE in Hungary - sounds to me strange -

  3. avignon, south east in provence, best part of france, only 2H20 by TGV train

  4. With the TGV train you can be in Provence in under 3 hours so I vote for Avignon even though I like most of the other places listed by others. It will be the most different experience from Strasbourg and Normandie. Another great place in Provence is Aix-en Provence, accessible by TGV too.

And the Loire Valley is so close, you have direct trains to Amboise, Blois, Tours... Those weekend days are the busiest and most expensive times to travel but if you don't have choice go for it.
