Were do directors start in filmming?

eventually I plan to become a writer/director for films, after highschool. But I completely lost after the whole going to college thing. Anyone know were it starts and how to get to the point were i could make a film.

Basically, get money, and make sure you're non-S.A.G.

If you have a plan, a dedicated group of above-line production and access to equipment, you can start now. I was a producer on a couple of little horror films, one of which that's internationally distributed. It was under the juggernaut-like march forward of the writer-director that made these movies happen, not a roomful of expensive suits. He wrote the shooting screenplay, got a couple of friends together for production, and made it happen. Those friends got on Craigslist and put out a call for pre-production crew, camera crew, special FX, and people with editing capability. It cost him a lot of money for a personal financing, but we ended up making it and selling it, where you can find it on netflix, barnes & noble, etc.

The point is, all you need to do is research and have a game plan. Get the script written and find a couple of college friends who are up for working on it. Make sure to come up with a shooting schedule.

Now...get your FX crew, camera crew, acting talent, producer and locations. DOn't shoot for the moon....stick to interior shots. Buy your sound equipment from Musiciansfriend or from ebay, not from a hollywood distributor. You need to know you aren't going to make a blockbuster at first, but you can make it great with home technology, planning, research, and a little bit of trust from your crew.
