  2. My maternal grandparents owned a family-run coffee shop in San Jose, Callifornia in the 1960s named Sandy's Coffee Shop and my mom worked there and my father was a local truck driver.

There was a customer that came into the coffee shop everyday to meet a married man who worked in the grocery store next door.  My mom and dad originally were going to call me Deborah-Ann Marie Katanic, but after thinking about it, they thought it was too long a name, so my mom came up with the idea to name me after her because of the intrigue of the affair, so I was given the first name of Darlene after the lady.

My middle name was after my maternal grandmother, Marie.

My full name ended up being Darlene Marie Katanic.

  6. In Greek Mythology: I was named after Cassandra, the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy. Cassandra was a princess but not favored by the royal court. She was prone to restless dreams and to "fainting" and having predictive visions. Unfortunately her visions and premonitions usually fortold unfortunate , negative or disasterous events.

Cassandra developed an interest in how her father governed the kingdom and she tried to help him with state affairs and war strategy, giving him the benefit of the insight her premonitions offered.

Cassandra also refused to be confined to the royal compound and would wander the streets of Troy, often climbing the long stairway to the temple of the Goddess Athena.

Cassandra's non-conformist behavior would not be tolerated and she went to serve the Goddess Athena at the Temple. Cassandra did return to the royal compound once more to warn her father of the Fall of Troy.  She described the Trojan Horse to him. Her father yelled at her to stay in the Temple.

Soon after Troy Fell, consumed by fire, after the royal family accepted a peace offering from one of their battle-enemies.

  9. My middle name, though spelled differently, is for my late, great-uncle Dale. He was one of my grandmother's 11 brothers and sisters.
