Does anyone know about weddings, celebrations on the west bank,I was told they are very noisy, and to bring earplugs,by this I don't know if it is because of music, singing, crowds, but I wanted to know what is all the noise I read about,it isn't fireworks, gunshots is it,as it would put me off going to that part,I have phobia of loud noises, guns, fireworks, sounds daft, but i am really worried incase I end up there when a wedding is taking place. Please does anyone know if they do have fireworks, gunshutting? Or is it just loud music etc, which I certainly don't mind.I mean Luxor Egypt west bank.

  1. Weddings in Egypt are loud, but in a fun way. It is not gunfire. The guests of the couple being married follow them around the area in a convoy of cars - all beeping their horns. They are just having fun, and letting everyone know there is  a wedding. It is the same all  over Egypt, it is just the culture. The women also make the noises with their hand half covering their mouths (this is called ululating), again just to celebrate.

You can read more about Egyptian weddings if you look at this website which I found for you -

So dont worry, just join in the fun.

    :)

  2. Egyptians arent allowed to blow fireworks or guns for the sake of security.

a wedding in the west bank of Luxor would be loud with music , drums , women making a noise with their tongues vibrating , and children running here and there .

you can go and have a look .

when you feel you have had enough , you can go back to the east bank.

    enjoy all you can

  3. Weddings can be noisey in luxor as car do drive through town and do a lot of horn bibbing and yelling.

  4. Yes, the weddings on the West Bank are noisy, with fireworks & guns fired in the air, horns tooting & drums beating. The weddings are great fun & very lively.

I wouldn't worry about being around them, mostly they are at night & most tourists are not over the west bank at night. If your around the Winter Palace area on a friday evening & hear lots of tooting & drums, then its a wedding party leaving for the other side.

    Dont worry about it, really.
