Question:

Western Accessories???

I just recently recovered from a bad leg break and can finally ride my horse again. I usually ride english, but was told a lot that western riding is much easier on your legs and ankles because the stirrups longer. So, since I didn't have a western saddle to ride in, I bought a very nice one on eBay for less then $150. When it came, it was missing the strap on the left side for rigging the cinch. I know on the other side it's called an off billet, and I'm pretty sure on the near side (left) it's called a latigo. I just want to make sure before I buy one. Is this the right thing?

Also, my horse is 3/4 quarter horse, 1/4 arabian, he has the body build of a quarter horse, but a little dish like an arabian. He wears full sized halters and stuff. I use a 52" girth on him english, but what size cinch do you think I should I buy for western? Please don't tell me to measure, becuase it's raining a lot where I live, so I can't see him for another day, and I'm trying to order the stuff ASAP, like tonight. Any suggestions? I wanted to buy this cinch cuz it's cheap and simple.

Any help is greatly appreciated! <3

  1. Those look like they would work

  2. i ride in a 32 on my appendix mare, but it somewhat depends on how low your saddle sets on his sides.. my old saddle was a little too high for a 32 and my new one is a little too low, but 32 is pretty good for most. Also, on your horse's right side should be a billet and on the horse's right side should be a latigo.

  3. If he is deep through the heart girth, get the 34"...if he isn't very deep, get the 32"....I base this on him being 15hh give or take a few inches.

Yes, the latigo is what you want.

  4. Yes you are correct in ordering the latigo. That is the same kind I use. The are long lasting, but I would probably buy two just in case.

As for your cinch, I would get a 32" and roper style. They are wider and offer more stabability and you wont get points docked for it too.

If you have broken your leg and have ankle problems, check into crooked stirrups. They are slanted at anatural angle when riding, and has helped me ride with arthritus.

Good idea in asking theses questions, good luck!

  5. get a 32" cinch

i have a 30" and its a little small but it like fits my bigg tb and also medium ponies

    yeah its called a latigo

  6. The tie strap is what you want, so the link you have for that is correct. I would suggest you try this cinch. I tried these and have completely changed over to them. My horses seem to like them better. I am sold on them and they cost just a little more than the one you want. They are also easy to clean. Here is the link and it is the same site as the other:

  7. Contact the sellers and ask for it!
