To my mind islamophobia is a FEAR of moslims (I am afraid of moslim).

In many ways this FEAR is justified because we only ever hear about which suicide bomber killed how many people in how many places last night AND never NEVER EVER do we hear about a ground swell of moslims demanding death to the suicide bombers' enablers.

We never hear about any moslim saying honour killings are wrong.

All we ever see are moslims with placards demanding death to cartoonists.

I can't be bothered going on.

umm... i'm afraid to even answer this question.. which btw, is a phobia as well... but me being me, i have to answer it.. :) my guesses are that this is a either a fear of the religion because 1. you might just actually love what you find out and become a crazy Muttavah person.. (the hijaab and abbaiya police).. or.. you might just have that fear in your heart that you should clean up your act of not being on the straight path before God strikes you down..

umm... thats what i think... so this is just my opinion.. no hard feelings folks.

I've always thought of it as a bit of a misnomer.  It describes an irrational fear of Islam.  But, the fear is not entirely irrational.  It's very much legitimate.  When we hear Muslims openly decry an allegiance to the nation in which they live or openly call for replacement of "man made" laws with Sharia, then that raises real concerns.  Many, many people have an aversion to living under that system.

'islamophobia' would be the irrational fear of Islam and would be something along the lines of all the Qur'ans coming to life and eating all the non-Muslims. That would be an irrational fear as opposed to 'understanding Islam' which is the rational fear that Islam will turn the whole world into a big sharia law h**l on Earth.
