Hastings in Hawkes bay. I know Havelock North is good, i've been there, but I hear Hastings is dangerous at night. Is that true? Who lives there or near there

What do you think of it

  1. It's a flat city, overshadowed by its neighbour to the north, Napier. But then, if you know Havelock North, you know that.

Hastings can be fairly quiet at night, but as far as crime and rowdy behaviour go, it's a superior place to most other new Zealand locations.

It's on the edge of the Heretaunga Plain, a 'wealthy' producer of primary products, meat, wool, grapes, vegetables, fruit and the like. Therefore there will be some itinerant workers who may play up a bit at night if they are not worked hard enough during the day.

There's also freezing works, fertiliser works and food processing factories in the vicinity, and these places may attract a rowdy element too

On the whole, I'd say Hastings would be a fairly good place to live.
